Yabancı Dil Olarak Türkçe Öğretiminde Öykü: B2 Düzeyinde Okuma ve Yazma Becerisi Geliştirme
Özet
The use of original teaching materials that reflect the various characteristics of language in foreign language teaching is an important issue. For this purpose, it is also important to use literary types that are not summarized or simplified. As a matter of fact, there are studies showing that these teaching materials support skill improvements. In these studies, the type being stated to be quite appropriate to the duration of the course is story. It is obvious that the stories used extensively in foreign language teaching in twentieth century will provide benefits in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. In this respect, in the study, as an additional material to coursebook the contribution of story to reading and writing skills which are defined as integrated skills was questioned in teaching Turkish to foreigners. The aim of the study is the use of original form of story as a teaching material to contribute to the development of reading and writing skills of B2 level students. To this purpose, the study included stories selected in terms of criteria, reading and writing activities and studying papers that will be able to be used at Teaching Turkish Centers. In order to make inference for improving reading and writing skills through story, pretest-posttest control group design of the true trial model of the quantitative research methods was used. Prior to the experimental application, experimental and control groups were asked to read Sait Faik Abasıyanık's story Silk Handkerchief within two course hours and to answer the questions on Reading Comprehension and Writing Form prepared by the researcher. After that, the researcher had four different stories read in the experimental group and various reading and writing activities were done. At the end of the experimental application, both groups were asked to read the same story and to answer the questions on form again. Then, the datum obtained in pretest and posttests were analyzed through IMB SPSS 21 data analysis program. According to the analysis results, it was realized that students’ reading and writing skills in experimental group is more improved compared to the students in the control group. In conclusion, it was statistically proven that story could be used as an additional teaching material in improving reading and writing skills. In addition, it has been concluded that when the story, which is one of the important literary genres of Turkish Literature, is used originally as a teaching material in teaching Turkish as a foreign language, it can contribute to B2 level students’ reading and writing skills improvement.
