Behçet Hastalarına Roy Adaptasyon Modeli Bağlamında Verilen Psikoeğitimin Hastalık Uyumu, Çift Uyumu, Benlik Saygısı ve Psikiyatrik Belirtiler Üzerine Etkisi

The study was conducted to examine the effect of psychoeducation provided to patients with Behçet’s Disease in the context of the Roy Adaptation Model on adaptation to the illness, dyadic adjustment, self-esteem and psychiatric symptoms. The study sample consisted of 70 consenting patients with a diagnosis of Behçet’s Disease who were being followed up at SB Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital, Health Research and Application Center of Gazi University Hospital, Hacettepe University Adult Hospital, SB University Ulucanlar Opthalmological Training and Research Hospital and the SB Ankara Training and Research Hospital, all within the Ankara municipality limits; the patients were divided into an intervention group and a control group of 35 participants each. The data were collected with a Patient Data Form, an Adaptation to Chronic Illness Scale, the Dyadic Adjustment Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and a Brief Symptom Inventory. The intervention group was exposed to the psychoeducation program within the context of the Roy Adaptation Model, attending 7 sessions once a week for 90-120 minutes. The scales were administered prior to and following the education, with a final application carried out one month after the last session. Intervention wasn’t conducted with the control group but the measurements were taken in the same manner. Percentages, means, standard deviation, the independent groups t test and the two-way repeated measures analysis of variance were employed in the analysis of the data. To conclude, it was determined that the psychoeducation provided to patients with Behçet’s Disease in the context of the Adaptation Model increased adaptation to the illness, self-esteem and diminished psychiatric symptoms.
