Evrensel Tasarım İlkeleri Doğrultusunda Engelsiz Üniversite Kampüslerinin Tasarlanması ve Biçimlenmesi Üzerine Bir Araştırma
Özet
Higher education institutions are one of the most important organizations on both national and international platforms in terms of the integrations of individuals to the society, raise consciousness and educating of the communities. In recent years, importance on these institutions have increased by the new regulations on laws and the number of universities have raised significantly. In spite of this critical university inflation, a number of problems have being faced by users in the university campuses planned under this structuring period.
In this regard, the subject of this thesis named “A Research on Designing and the Formation of Accessible University Campuses in accordance with Universal Design Principles” is, without ignoring the presence of non-disabled individuals, conditions, necessities and determination and examination of what can be done in this planning period of the university campuses specific to the needs of disabled users. In addition to this, the processes which have been developed until today and the processes which have still been developing will be addressed thoroughly and with the determination of modern tendency on this subject, it will be tried to guide the designers and even other individuals who haven’t been in any project about disabled people, to overcome the obstacles in front of the planning of accessible campuses.
In the first chapter of the thesis which consist of seven chapters; field of the problem and the purpose of this study will be explained. In the second chapter; equivalents of the definition of disability on international platforms will be conveyed, public housing laws in our country, shortcomings of the law and accessible construction standards defined by TSE, ADA etc. will be talked about. Besides, the universal design concept as a design approach, history of the universal design and its principles will be mentioned. In this chapter, architectural space and user relation and space design for disabled and non-disabled users will be presented to the reader as well. In the third chapter, the term University will be studied in all its part. In the forth chapter, the education of disabled / handicapped individual, the history of disabled people’s education, the current laws and the politics about disabled individual’s education services and higher education will be talked about. In the fifth chapter, spatial applications designed for disabled individuals at the KTO Karatay University will be narrated by photos, in the sixth chapter, an interior door sample designed by the writer for the universities as one of the public spaces will be presented to the reader. And in the last chapter, along with conclusion and evaluation topic, the thesis will be ended.
