Özet
This thesis deals with the effects of Jerusalem’s waqf network on urban space, social relations
and relations with the central government in the years 1703-1831. After the introduction where certain notions, main works related to the topic and Ottoman urban and waqf studies are argued,
the first chapter dealt with to place a historical background for the province of Jerusalem in an
Ottomancontext.Following to the second chapter in which waqf network of Jerusalem is
described beginning from the Muslim conquest of the city, the social relations within this waqf
network are evaluated in its all aspects in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter waqf
applications are discussed emerging around the provincial court and around as reflected in daily
interactions of provincial actors of Jerusalem belonging to different social sectors. These
practices committed by the Ottoman state apparatus are examined from various angles in the context of a provincial town. In the thesis,resources in Turkish and Palestinian Archives are addressed.
