Abstract

BOYACI, Sibel. Research On New Expression Opportunities On The Basis Of Indications And The Representation Of Women, Master Of Arts Report, Ankara, 2018. On the report with the title of ‘‘Research On New Expression Opportunities On The Basis Of Indications And The Representation Of Women ’’ it is aimed at scrutinizing the new ways of expression which are created by feminist artists by using their representations as indications while transferring them into art practice during the process of feminist artists’ reconstruction of the representations of women that the masculine potency created in terms of gender roles in accordance with their self-interests. At the first section, as the main heading, ‘Gender’ is discussed in a conceptual framework, besides; how social gender, which is different from biological gender, has been gaining its meaning as a social category since birth and women’s collaboration and struggle against that assigned meaning are discussed as well. At the second section, the women artists’ collaboration to start a struggle against gender-oriented unequal distribution, women artists’ being ostracized from the history of art and their being represented as ‘the other’ in the society is analyzed. The feminist art discipline which arose from the demand for equality between men and women in 1960s has brought the statements of ‘difference’ and ‘pluralism’ into the forefront and profited by deconstruction, one of the techniques of postmodernism. The feminist artists who opened new doors while working on the issue of women representation through indications created new expression opportunities in art practice by using various indications and developing new ways of using indications. That process of change and development are scrutinized via the works of feminist artists. At the third section, the works of art created by contemporary feminist artists by using indications with the aim of creating their own representations and the ways of use of which have started getting rich during that development process are evaluated with the help of personal works of art.
