DOĞU KÜLTÜRÜNDE ZAMAN ALGISININ MEKAN BİÇİMLENİŞİNE ETKİSİ
Özet
The space which is the main subject of the architecture, is a multi-layered integrity created by the time and the human factors added to the physical plane. In this plane, the space is no longer a dull image with the help of the time and the subject, that is, human; and gets existence ability in the process and a flow. The space which gets its own existence by presenting itself to the human who experience it (the space) in his own inner, is in mutual interaction with the subject. This interaction is provided by the time factor. Thus, it is understood that the time and space can not be considered independently or separately from each other, and that people actually experience the time in the space. This perspectiveness is obtained with the help of phenomenology, not the Maths or geometrical calculations.
In order to understand the time which is a general concept, it is necessary to find the equivalent of the concept of 'moment' which in fact constitutes the time, to the societies. According to the modernity, the moment is the smallest, limited time unit possible with atomic clocks. On the other hand, according to the Vernacular Eastern belief, since there is no a smaller time unit, the moment can be likened to an hourglass whose flow can be monitored (as it is turned upside down). Here, as the grains of sand do not pass through the throat of the hourglass one by one, there emerges a process of temporality and fluidity. Thus, a grain of sand can not be displayed as a unit of time by itself. In Vernacular Eastern culture, this temporal representation of space is expressed interpreted with in–between spaces in the field of architecture. However, the experience of these spaces is made through 'poetic imagination'. For this purpose, the universe which is perceived as three-dimensional and tried to be defined by various limitations, will be interpreted with a different eye and a chance to get rid of the definite judgements will emerge by overcoming the Cartesian belief occured from classical physics for centuries.
