Malul Terör Gazilerinin Sosyal Destek ve Yaşam Kalitesinin Değerlendirilmesi

The aim of this research is to evaluate the social support and quality of life of the terror
veterans with disabilities. The empowerment of the terror veterans from the
psychosocial aspect and restoring social functioning can be achieved through the
social support system by ensuring the quality of life to the optimal level.
Quantitative method was used in the research. The study sample consists of voluntary
terror veterans with disabilities registered to the Adana, Ankara Etimesgut, Balikesir,
Bursa, Düzce, Diyarbakir, Eskişehir, Istanbul European Side, Konya, Samsun branches
of the Turkish War Veterans, Martyr Widows and Orphans Association. The sociodemographic
form was prepared by the researcher to reveal the socio-demographic
characteristics of the disabled terror veterans. The World Health Organization Quality
of Life Scale-Short Form Turkish Version (WHOQOL-BREF-TR) was used to assess
the quality of life level of disabled terror veterans. Perceived Social Support Scale
(MSPSS) was used to assess the perceived social support of the veterans.
Questionnaires were sent by e-mail, and responses from 227 disabled terror veterans
were assessed. The collected data were analyzed by a computer program called IBM
SPSS Statistics 20 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
The research findings were covered under four main headlines. Disabled terror
veterans are usually middle-aged individuals with a nuclear family, working at a regular job, injured by bullets or mines, living in their own home, orthopedically injured and
receiving spousal or parental support. There was a significant correlation among the
physical, mental, social and environmental sub-dimensions of the quality of life of the
disabled terror veterans. There is a meaningful correlation among the social support
family, friends, special human sub-dimensions and the total scores of social supports.
There is a significant correlation between sub-dimensions of social support and all subdimensions
of quality of life. The quality of life also optimizes with the increase in
perceived social support levels of the disabled terror veterans.
