Gelişimsel Cümle Analizi (GECA) ve Üretimsel Sözdizimi İndeksi (ÜSİ) Türkçe Uyarlaması ve Ortalama Sözce Uzunluğu ile İlişkisinin İncelenmesi
Özet
The study aims to adapt Developmental Sentence Scoring (DSS) and Index of Productive Syntax (IPSyn), which assess language development with natural language samples, to Turkish; and to compare the results with Mean Length of Utterance (MLU). Accordingly, 80 participants aged between 2;0 and 5;11 are grouped into eight at intervals of six months; and 40 males and 40 females are included totally. For DSS, last 50 sentences and for IPSyn first 100 utterances produced by the participants during 20-30 minutes of play with farm toy set are determined. The grammatical categories of DSS and IPSyn are composed by literature review on child language acquisition and analyzing the utterances of the participants, as a result, scores are obtained for to age groups assessing the participants according to categories of both DSS and IPSyn separately. To determine the reliability of the methods, %20 of the participants are observed by the 2 coders not only for DSS but also for IPSyn. The results show that DSS scores increase as the age increases, however, the scores do not increase in all grammatical categories consistently. Moreover, DSS scores are not statistically significant between genders, but they are highly correlated with MLU. As for IPSyn, the scores continually rise except for the minimal decline in the group of 4;6-5;0. As being similar to DSS, the grammatical categories of IPSyn do not increase consistently. Being independent of gender effect, IPSyn is highly correlated with MLU, too. At the last place, the investigation of the relation between DSS and IPSyn, being adapted to Turkish, indicates high correlation value. In conclusion, the children speaking Turkish as their first language between 2;0 and 5;11 can be assessed with these methods.
