Özet
In this thesis, causativity is considered as a semantic category that includes the voice but not limited to the voice. Since causativity is a cause-and-effect relation, it is sometimes found that causality expressions are interpreted as causative, and the differences between these two concepts are addressed. Since our discussion of causality is based on philosophical arguments, we have developed a multi-faceted view, beginning with philosophy, including pragmatics, semantics, morphology, syntax, phonology and examined the interactions of eternity in all these fields.
In this study, which treated causatives with a functional approach, unlike the formalist approaches, both form-to-function and function-to-form analysis has been applied. With this method, we found out that causative forms are not always used for the same function, and that the causative function is not always expressed in the same form.
In this thesis, it is proved that the causativity is not just a suffixation or transitivisation process. In our study, the parameters of formal and functional typology are given separately. Causatives, according to formal typology; classified as syntactic, morphologic and lexical causative types, according to functional typology, semantic parameters and productivity.
In this thesis, causative morphemes are classified according to their semantic characteristics and their productivity, and for the first time a classification which is not limited to the phonological criteria has been made.
Through this classification some suggestions have been provided on which criteria should be used for causative verbs.
As required also by the Transformational Generative Grammar Theory, no corpus has been used in this study. Instead, the Google search engine, which provides the nonce formations, has been used to observe how the causativity is formed according to context and to determine the tendency of Modern Turkish. Thus, we encountered uses that are not included in the grammar books. These uses have shown that the -DXr morpheme refers to indirect causative and can alternate with other forms when necessary.
In this thesis, the notion of voice was approached as a form of expression, reflecting the perspective of the speaker and the processes of causativisation were examined accordingly. The mistakes in the analysis of the causativisation process are determined and it has been emphasized what kind of methods should be used based on the rules of the process.
