Özet
Coal preparation plants generate clean coal as a result of coal enrichment processes, but they also generate schist and slurry as processing waste. Slurry, made of water and solid materials, is generally piled up in waste storage ponds. It has become an obligation for this slurry waste to be dewatered due to increase of necessity to clean water, clean coal loss, economical reasons and environmental sensitivity worldwide.
This study covers the research of utilization opportunities of several samples in thermal power plants as a combustion fuel. The samples are solid-liquid mixtures with fine size dimention from different points taken from Ömerler Coal Washing Plant situated in Kütahya-Tuncbilek Region and Derekoy Coal Washing Plant situated in Manisa-Soma Region, which are both operated within Turkish Coal Enterprises.
For this purpose, the grain size distribution of -0.5 mm, MSG feeding and thickener sub-flow (slurry) samples from Dereköy and Ömerler Coal Washing Plants are chemically analyzed and their coal contents are determined for every fraction. Later, dewatering tests are performed by filter presses. Testing and analyzing results are assessed by using Lave 2.0 Software.
As a result of the study, 19.64-24.20 % moisture content is obtained by applying filter press tests for 0.5 mm, MSG feeding and thickener samples and successful slurry dewatering has been achieved. However, for the evaluation of the samples as a power plant fuel, Dereköy and Ömerler Coal Washing Plants -0.5 mm samples are found appropriate. Environmentally sensitive flow diagrams can also be created for the Ömerler and Dereköy Coal Washing Plants with zero slurry waste.
