KUŞCİ, Z. Perspectives and Experiences of Intensive Care Nurses Regarding Missing Nursing Care. Hacettepe University, G.S of Health Sciences, Master’s Thesis in Fundamentals of Nursing, Ankara, 2025. This study was conducted as a descriptive qualitative research to explore the perspectives and experiences of intensive care nurses regarding unmet nursing care needs. The study population consisted of nurses working in the General Intensive Care Unit of Amasya Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Training and Research Hospital. The study was conducted with 15 nurses who agreed to participate through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth, face-to-face interviews using semi-structured interview questions between July 10 and December 24, 2023. The qualitative data obtained from the study were analyzed using content analysis. The findings were categorized into five main themes: nurses’ perceptions of nursing care and missed nursing care, factors contributing to missed nursing care, intensive care needs and missed nursing care needs, the effects of missed nursing care, and recommendations for preventing unmet nursing care. The study revealed that the most frequently unmet care practices in intensive care units were positioning and interventions aimed at the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries. It was determined that intensive care nurses experienced moral distress, decreased professional satisfaction, reduced motivation, and increased stress as a result of unmet care practices. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the factors contributing to unmet nursing care needs be addressed, holistic nursing care be provided, and institutional standards be established to mitigate the negative consequences of missed nursing care needs for patients, nurses, and healthcare institutions.
