Esra, Ü. Investigation of Turkish Validity and Reliability of Kaiser Physical Activity Questionnaire for Pregnants. Hacettepe University, Institute of Health Sciences, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Programme, Master of Science Thesis, Ankara, 2017. This study was planned to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Kaiser Physical Activity Survey (KPAS), which was developed to assess the level of physical activity in women. 151 pregnant women with a mean age 29.3 ± 5.0 years and no obstetric and medical complications were included this study. The demographic and obstetric characteristics of participants were collected. To determine the level of physical activity, each subject completed KPAS and Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ). The total energy expenditure of 35 pregnants for 1 week was assessed by physical activity monitor (SenseWear Pro 3 Armband). In the first step, KPAS was adapted to Turkish. For the reliability of the KPAS, the scale was re-administered after 1 week to 151 pregnant women. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) values between the test-retest scores of the KPAS subscales (household/caregiving activities, occupational activities, active living habits, participation in sporsts and exercise) were found 0.971, 0.982, 0.959, 0.966 respectively, (p<0.05). ICC was found 0.978 for total activity index of KPAS, 0.981 for weighted total activity index (p<0.05). The smallest ICC of items of the subscale was 0.816, majority were 0.95 or above. The internal consistency (Cronbach's α) was determined 0.677 for household/caregiving activities subscale, 0.680 for occupational activity subscale, 0.630 for active living habits subscale and 0.70 for participation in sports and exercise subscale. These results showed that 4 subscales were also very reliable. Criterion validity was tested fort he scale validity. The correlations between total energy expenditure obtained from physical activity monitor and total activity index of KPAS (r=0.445, p=0.007) and weighted total activity index of KPAS (r=0.642, p <0.001) were found statistically significant and moderate. There were a moderate and statistically significant (p <0.001) correlation between PPAQ total score and total activity index (r = 0.443) and weighted total activity index (r = 0.523). Based on the results, KPAS was a valid and reliable questionnaire for assessing physical activity in Turkish pregnant women.
