Representation of ‘Strange’ in Turkish and German Children’s Books, Master’s Thesis, Ankara, 2016.Actually, a negative meaning is attached to notion of strangeness; hence it represents unknown. The word ‘strange’ has no implicit meaning indeed; it gains either positive or negative meaning depending on people’s attribution. Therefore, meaning of the word takes shape according to imagination of people and changes according to time and situation. The first step was taken by Aristoteles to form criteria systematically for the concept of strangeness. The criterion of strangeness is cultural by nature. An universal answer is available in reply to how or by whom the criterion of strangeness has been determined. This answer explains all criteria in human history.
