Meslekler Arası İlişkilere Yönelik Görüşlerin Değerlendirilmesi: Hekim ve Hastane Yöneticileri Örneği
Özet
The physician-manager relationship is indispensable for the success of health institutions, ensuring competitive advantage, sustainability, and strong and effective management of today’s multidisciplinary health teams. Physicians with high professional autonomy actively participate in clinical processes, while professional managers are active in organizational and managerial decisions. There are professional and managerial differences between professional managers who are professionally trained in management and physicians who come to the fore with their clinical specialties. Although physician-manager interprofessional relationship is at the heart of health institution management activities, as far as we know, existing studies have not addressed whether the opinion of interprofessional relationships between physicians and hospital managers differs depending on hospital ownership and whether managers have physician expertise. To fill this void, this study aimed to evaluate the opinions of physicians and hospital managers about interprofessional relationships and to determine whether the opinions about interprofessional relationships differ according to having private and public ownership status for hospitals and the managers having physician expertise or not. The study universe was limited due to time and budget constraints by considering the number of beds in hospitals operating in Ankara province, and private and public hospitals with a number of beds equal to or higher than 150 were determined. 6 hospitals with a number of beds of 150 and above were identified in private hospitals. The number of hospitals with the number of beds of 150 and above in public hospitals has been determined to be 5. In this study, it was aimed to reach all senior managers and physicians, and face-to-face surveys were performed by the researcher with 50 middle-senior managers and 229 physicians within the scope of the 6 hospitals that were granted permission for this study. Study findings verified that there exists a sound difference between physicians and hospital managers by means of interprofessional relationships (p<0.05), the difference in opinion of interprofessional relationships between physicians and hospital managers changed depending on the ownership status of the hospital whether it is private or public (p<0.05). Finally, it was seen that the opinion of interprofessional relationships of managers who are physicians and non-physicians is not different (p>0.05). It is understood that in order to carry out activities with high orchestration in the management of health institutions, the differences in the evaluation of physicians and hospital managers about interprofessional relationships should be considered.
