This study aims to shed light on the processes of marginalization of individuals who live in the periphery and who are outside the nationalist conservative majority in the peripheries. Individuals who adopt a political view and lifestyle outside the nationalist and conservative framework in the provinces are marginalized in various ways.
Within the scope of the study, firstly, information was given about the basic concepts to be used in the research and then a literature review was conducted on these terms. In this context, firstly, the concept of periphery and life in the periphery were discussed, and the dominant nationalist-conservative climate in the provinces was mentioned. Then, in order to better comprehend the problems faced by individuals who are different from the nationalist-conservative society in the peripheries and the interventions they are exposed to, the concept of the other, which is the focus of the research, and the phenomenon of marginalization were examined. Then the concept of discrimination is discussed, and in the following part of the study, information about hate speech and hate crime is given. In the methodology part of the study, in-depth interviews with individuals living in Karaman who felt marginalized because they were not nationalist-conservative and the analysis of these interviews were included. The people included in the study are members, managers or sympathizers of political parties, civil society organizations and unions that do not have a nationalist-conservative mindset. Six participants stated that although they positioned themselves politically on the left, they did not feel belonging to any organization. Following the interviews, the discrimination experienced was categorized and the types of discrimination experienced were indicated.
