This study includes not only the 12 etudes for left hand by Leopold Godowsky on technical and musical aspect with comparison to the Frédéric François Chopin’s Op.10, but also Godowsky’s life, piano technique, his genuine contribution for piano literature, 53 arrangements regarding Chopin’s etudes and general information for left hand piano music. During the literature review phase, it has been figured out that the scientific studies published in Turkish about Leopold Godowsky and his works are quite limited. Hence, this study is aimed to guide performers, students, researchers and composers who are into getting familiarized and study the pieces of Godowsky mentioned thoroughly. Data is obtained through literature review and documentation.
At the end of the research and the observations, it has been deduced that Chopin etudes designed for left hand by Godowsky are remarkably valuable for performers who want to develop left hand piano technique or lost their right hand for some reason and it also provides an insight within the left hand repertoire which is not common in piano literature.
