Hareketli Görüntüler Üzerinden Türkiye'de Toplumsal Değişimler: Kadın İmgesi (1895-1938)
Özet
This study aims to determine the contribution of moving images, a new material in historical research, to the existing literature and what the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Türkiye wanted to show in the records. To achieve this goal, moving images from 1895 to 1938, which were transferred to digital media by the General Directorate of Cinema, were used and both quantitative and qualitative analyses were conducted on 198 moving images. It is known that Turkish modernization began with steps taken in fields such as education, economy, politics, and law and gradually spread to other areas. Although the military and political dimensions of the images were emphasized, a study of the individual-society was also conducted by not ignoring the sociological dimension. In order to determine the impact of change on women's lives during this period, more emphasis was placed on the image of women. It was particularly noticed that girls were highlighted in international relations. It was observed that the women in images such as election, welcoming ceremony, celebration, attracted attention in terms of their positions, clothing styles and duties. This study serves as an initial endeavor in utilizing moving images as historical sources within the field of history.
