Özet
The aim of this study is to reveal the knowledge of hunting in the old Turkic societies, based on the vocabulary in the texts written in the old and middle period Turkic languages. In the study, foreign sources that provide information about the old and middle period Turkic societies, the scenes in the pictographs thought to be drawn by the Turks, the narratives such as myths and epics belonging to the Turks with traces from the relevant period, and the beliefs of the Turks also mentioned in order to understand the subject in a more holistic way.
In this study, firstly the texts belong to the old Turkic period scanned and the words related to hunt and hunting in the texts determined and classified according to various subjects among themselves.
In the study, the transcription of the texts in which the words identified about hunting are included.
In order to understand the terms of hunting in a more holistic way, attention paid to the social, economic and religious lives of the old and middle period Turkic societies, the differences in their lifestyles and their interactions with hunting.
Terms related to hunting will be determined by scanning the inscriptions that belongs to the Orkhon, Uighur and Kyrgyz Khanate period, Uighur texts belongs to Buddhist and Manichaean societies and the first Turkic writings of the Islamic period; and these terms examined in various etymological dictionaries. Dictionaries of contemporary Turkic dialects also considered in order to show cultural continuity by associating the terms with present.
