Üniversitelerde Çalışan Öğretim Elemanlarının Mobbing Deneyimleri ve Mobbingin Bireyler Üzerindeki Psiko-Sosyal Etkileri

The main aim of this research is to investigate the mobbing experiences of teaching and research staff working at Hacettepe University and the psycho-social effects of mobbing on individuals. Mobbing Scale for Academics, which was developed by Mehmed Zahid Çögenli, is used in the analysis of the teaching and research staff's mobbing exposure levels according to age, gender, marital status, seniority, academic title and department. The survey is conducted through completely digital environment, and 217 teaching and research staff (145 female and 72 male) participated in our research. According to the results of the survey, 72.8% of the respondents stated that they were exposed to mobbing in the workplace and 33.6% of them did not suffer any mobbing. The results have shown that the teaching and research staff in the age range of 23-30 years and 31-40 years had the highest number of teaching staff participating in the research and the participation rate in the research decreased as the age of the teaching and research staff increased. Women make up the majority of teaching and research staff who say that they are exposed to mobbing. A large number of these academics think that the personal reasons for exposure to mobbing originate from their personal success and jealousy of others, while organizational reasons are due to inadequate managers and poor organizational culture. It is found that most of the mobber academicians have administrative duties at the departments in addition to their academic duties. Reactions of the teaching and research staff exposed to mobbing are also surveyed and the results have shown that the mobbing victims mostly preferred to remain silent.
