The theoretical foundations of this thesis work are based on the idea that the prerequisite for foreign language learners, who are seen as social actors, to be able to communicate in the target language and fulfill social tasks is to have a command of the culture in which the target language is spoken, and therefore the oral language elements, which are one of the most important reflectors of culture. Based on the assumption that television language is a representation of the oral language and based on a television language corpus to be created, the present study aimed to reveal the lexical frequency of oral language and the sociolinguistic indicators of oral language. For this purpose, the most watched programs were determined based on the viewing data on the first week of each month in 2021, and a section of 19 hours and 46 minutes taken from these programs according to the distribution of views and consisting of 890 tracks was transcribed. As a result of the transcription process, the Television Language Corpus (TLC) consisting of 446,254 words was created. This corpus was analyzed using the online corpus analysis application called Sketch Engine. Then, to find an answer to the question of “To what extent does the TV Language Corpus Reflect Oral Language?”, the frequency list created was compared with the frequency list of Aşık (2007), another oral language-based vocabulary study, and it was found that 65% of the words in the lists were the same. It was determined that the differences between the two lists were mostly due to the differences in criteria. In the next stage of the study, 2-3 gram-dependent syntaxes with a frequency greater than 10 were drawn from the TLC and listed. Dependent syntaxes were examined and interpreted in terms of formulaic units in language and discourse determinants specific to oral language. In the next stage, two sequences selected from the corpus were interpreted in terms of sociological indicators in order to reveal the cultural codes of the oral language. In the last stage of the study, linguistic deviations, foreign words, and use of slang, which are not in the frequency list but are important indicators of television language, were also discussed.
