Özet
The aim of this study is to examine in detail the narrative skills
and working memory, natural language and home early literacy environments of 48-
72 months old children from different socioeconomic levels and to investigate the
relationship between them. The study group of the research consists of 40 children
from different socioeconomic levels attending kindergartens in Istanbul and their
parents. In this study, Mercer Mayer’s “Frog Where Are You?” book (56) and the
"Story Telling Evaluation Form" developed by Işıtan (116) was used for the analysis
of children's narratives. “Nonword Word Repetition List” by Akoğlu (118) and “Peg
Tapping Task” were applied. The home early literacy environment was evaluated
using the "EROY-EV" scale developed by Karaahmetoğlu (123). As a result of the
research, there was no statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of
macrostructure of the stories, the event that started the story, internal reaction,
development, search action, search locations, obstacles, finding a title for the story,
according to family income level. When the stories of the children were examined
microstructurally, it was found that the scores of the story length section differed
significantly according to the family income status.
