Beydağı M.G. Investigation of the Relationship between Body Awareness Level with Pain, Posture, Balance, Functional Status and Joint Position Sense in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between body awareness level with pain, posture, balance, functional status and joint position sense in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA). The study was conducted with 24 volunteers aged between 45-70 years (55.5±7.57 years), diagnosed with Stage 2-3, unilateral knee osteoarthritis according to the Kellgren-Lawrence criteria, and a control (57.2±6, 6 years) group. The physical characteristics and sociodemographic information of the individuals were recorded. Body Awareness Questionnaire was used to assess the level of body awareness, Visual Analog Scale was used for pain intensity, and Corbin Posture Scale was used for posture. Balance Check Screener (Bertec Corporation) device was used to evaluate balance, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and Timed Get Up and Go Test were used for functional status. Joint position sense (EPH) was evaluated with the help of a digital goniometer at knee angles of 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60° in the supine position, and at 30° and 60° in the standing position. As a result of our study, it was observed that individuals with knee OA were negatively affected compared to the control group in all parameters except the posture and balance parameters with eyes open and anterior-posterior swing distance (p<0.05). In individuals with knee OA, there is a good correlation between body awareness level and pain intensity at rest and activity (r: -0.654, r:-0.557), disease symptom onset time (r:-0.680) and posture (r:-0.617). , anterior-posterior swing distance with eyes open and closed (r:-0.456, r:-0.738), joint position sense at knee angles of 15°,30°,45°,60° in supine and 30°,60° in standing (r:- A moderate negative correlation was found between 0.490, r:-0.434, r:-0.509, r:-0.541 and r:-0.549, r:-0.579, and WOMAC total scores (r: -0.513) (p< 0, 05). No relationship was found between the level of body awareness and the timed get up and go test (r:-0,261). It was concluded that the level of body awareness in individuals with knee OA was associated with pain, disease symptom onset, posture, anterior-posterior postural sway, joint position sense, and WOMAC scores. It is very important to reveal the factors associated with body awareness in patients with knee OA. The results of our study; It will be useful for the formation of a holistic perspective that will enable the creation of trainings that will develop, improve and increase awareness of clinical deficiencies by determining the factors related to the body awareness level of individuals with knee OA.
