Recently, self-assembled lipid nanotubes are among the most interested topics due to theiradvantages such as quite simple production procedures, high bio-compatibilities and wideapplication areas ranging from electronics to biotechnology. Formation of smart lipidnanotube systems whose properties can be reversibly tuned by using external stimuli willevidently increase the functionality of the lipid nanotubes. Although there exist somestudies about external stimuli-morphology-tunable lipid nanotubes, they are limited andinsufficient. However, this topic becomes more and more attractive day by day. Thus, inthis study, it is aimed to form smart self-assembled lipit nanotubes whose properties can bereversibly controlled by changing the external stimuli and which can be used for theencapsulation of biomacromolecules and microorganisms, drug transportation andcontrolled release, template applications, formation of 1D organic-metallic hybridstructures etc. and to perform some pre- investigations about their usabilities in some of
those application areas. It is also aimed in this thesis to quest for the relationship between
the molecular structure and aggregate properties. In order to achieve these aims, Aqua
molecule (AQ-NH-(CH2)10COOH), which has a dual stimuli-responsive character, i.e. both
pH sensitive and redox active, owing to the COOH and anthraquinone groups, which are
specially integrated to the molecular structure, is designed and synthesized.
