Sporcularda Tükenmişlik: Bir Model Testi
Özet
This research was carried out with the aim of creating a model within the framework of the change and interaction in these variables with a longitudinal research design, based on the variables of athlete burnout, sports-specific anxiety, coping with sports, commitment to sports and mental endurance in sports in volleyball players. A total of 303 volleyball players, 156 women and 147 men, with at least 3 years of sports experience, participated in the research voluntarily. The data were collected from the athletes within the scope of the longitudinal research design in 3 different periods, namely at the beginning of the season, in the middle of the season and at the end of the season, with the presence of the researcher. The Athlete Burnout Scale, the Athlete Engagement Scale, the Coping with Stress in Sports Inventory, the Mental Toughness Inventory in Sports, and the Competition Anxiety in Sports Test were used to collect the data, and it took an average of 15 minutes to answer the scale package. Pearson Moment Correlation Analysis was performed in order to determine the relationship between the variables considered within the scope of the research. Multiple Stepwise Regression Analysis was conducted to examine whether the sports-specific anxiety, mental toughness, commitment to sports and coping levels of the athletes determine their burnout levels. The Analysis of Variance in Repeated Measurements was used to test the difference between gender, experience, and measurements in the levels of athlete burnout, competition anxiety, athlete commitment, coping with stress in sports and mental toughness in sports. In addition, Mediator Variable Analysis was used to model the relationship between sports-specific burnout, athlete commitment, mental toughness, coping with stress in sports, and competition anxiety. The margin of error in the study was taken as .05. Findings obtained as a result of the analysis showed that all variables except coping with stress in sports (p>0.05) were associated with athlete burnout in mid-season and end-of-season measurements (p<0.01). At the beginning of the season, commitment, mental toughness and coping with stress were effective in determining athlete burnout (p<0.01); it was seen that only commitment and mental toughness had a decisive effect in the middle of the season and at the end of the season (p<0.01). In the mediation analysis, when the mediating variables were ignored, the effect of competition anxiety on burnout was found to be statistically significant in all three measurements (beginning, middle and end of the season) (p<0.01). During the season, mental toughness, and commitment (p<0.01) had a partial mediating effect in the negative direction in the effect of competition anxiety on burnout; it was seen that coping skills did not have a mediating effect (p>0.05). The findings obtained showed that burnout, competition anxiety, commitment to sports and coping with stress in sports changed throughout the season (p<0.01); In addition, it showed that burnout differed according to experience (p<0.05).
