The development of technology, population growth, and increase in production and consumption caused by industrialization has brought environmental problems along with it. The reduction of resources and the deterioration of the natural structure poses a threat to future generations. Sustainability creates conditions in which current and future generations can protect their resources and needs in environmental, social and economic fields.
With the development of technology and digitalization, the methods of design, the way of conveying to the audience and consumption habits are changing. Within the scope of the thesis, the development process of sustainable design methods from past to present is examined. Within the framework of sustainable design, the effects of traditional and digital design processes on the environment and design are evaluated.
The scope of the project consists of the interface design of the mobile application named Elden, which includes the sustainability principles both conceptually and qualitatively. Elden mobile application creates a new alternative within the scope of sustainable user interface design. Elden mobile application is designed as a donation-oriented application, not a sales-oriented application. It aims to reduce consumption by expanding reuse and to deliver waste to recycling centers. Existing donation spots are transformed into symbolic meeting spots. At these meeting spots, if users donate with a QR code they are rewarded with points. This reward system offers the opportunity to acquire habits that support sustainability.
