Elektrik Üretiminde Kullanılan Linyitin Madencilik Aşamasına Ait Yaşam Döngüsü Değerlendirmesi
Özet
The share of coal in electricity generation is expected not to change significantly in the next two decades due to the vast amount of coal reserves distributed globally, price stability, public opposition for nuclear energy and high capital cost of renewable energies. Coal is one of the domestic resources in Turkey and the searching of coal activities resulting with big amounts of coal in recent years makes coal's share in electricity generation increase in the coming years. There are significant life cycle impacts of coal used for electricity generation such as heavy metal emissions and acidification. Among them, impacts related to the combustion phase have so far been the focus of attention and are better-known than other phases of the life cycle. Relatively less attention has been given to impacts during mining and coal preparation processes in mining sites which are also polluting due to generation of large quantities of wastewater, particulate matter and heavy metal emissions and the use of heavy machinery which is energy-intensive.
