Özet
The acquisition of the correct grammatical structures as well as the use of language in accordance with different social contexts; in other words, sociolinguistic competence is crucial to foreign language teaching. The aim of this study is to investigate the extent to which sociolinguistic competence is included in the B2 level textbooks used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. In the light of the data to be obtained from here, it is also aimed to contribute to the materials developed and used in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
The study was designed as a qualitative research in the scanning model. Document analysis technique was used as a data collection tool. The B2 level textbooks Yedi İklim, Yeni Hitit ve Gazi TÖMER which are commonly used in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language were selected as samples and were evaluated according to a checklist. The checklist used to evaluate the books was created on the basis of the items under the sociolinguistic competence heading of the Common European Framework of Reference and other related studies in the literature. The data obtained are presented in tabular form on a unit basis.
According to the findings obtained in the research, it has been found that the most frequently used sociolinguistic elements in the textbooks are proverbs and idioms. It has been determined that the books mostly contain informative texts and the conversation parts are in the minority. For this reason, it has been concluded that official language and common language forms are frequently seen, but less formal and informal language usages used in daily communication are not sufficiently included. It has been determined that different communication channels such as internet language, telephone conversation and e-mail are almost never included.
