This study focuses on how Rahmi Bediz- Demirtaş Kamçıl Architecture Office, which
produced the largest number and variety of apartment typologies through housing
cooperatives in post-World War II Ankara, contributed to the shaping of modern
consciousness while focusing on residential buildings (1954-1962). In this context, the thesis is divided into three main parts; While the first part focuses on the modernity discourse of the educational and professional environment, the second part looks at the modern life culture that architects imagine through housing cooperatives. In the last part, the relationships and contradictions of the proposed life are discussed through the narratives of the interviewees. This study, which investigates the discourse of modernity through archival documents and oral interviews, aims to decipher the ideologies and social aspirations related to the themes of class, gender, taste, Turkish modernity, and architectural Modernism.
