Özet
In this study, the capabilities approach was used to examine the experiences and
capabilities of women with low socioeconomic status and disabled children. Capabilities
approach is an approach that focuses on the questions of what each individual can be and
what they can do. In this yearlong study, in-depth interview technique was used since the
poverty experiences of women with disabled children, who received help from Social
Assistance and Solidarity Foundations, in terms of family, environmental and exclusion
dimensions will be examined in depth by conducting long-term interviews with them.
These in-depth interviews were made through voice and video calls, as the subject group
felt more comfortable within their preferences. This research, which is a qualitative
research, is a narrative research and narrative analysis was used in the analysis phase. In depth interviews with women were analyzed with the help of MAXQDA 12 Analytics
Pro software. Within the scope of the research, it was aimed to reveal the implicit meaning
of the story by examining the stories of women about their experiences shaped by having
a disabled child. In the findings of the study, two different main themes emerged as
structural capabilities and psychosocial capabilities. According to the results of the
research, the skills development processes of women with disabled children are in relation
with many life experiences. According to the result obtained from the narratives, the basic
ability levels of the subject group of the research are much weaker than they should be
according to the literature. At this point, the governments should accept that capability
development is a multidimensional concept and should take responsibility.
