Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is an integrated management system that enables efficient use of resources such as labor, machinery and materials required for the production of goods and services in enterprises. ERP solutions are widely used all over the world; however, the development of quality ERP products, the selection of the product that suits the need, and the successful implementation often require qualified guidance.
Maturity models have been proposed as a guide for evaluating and improving the product / service delivery processes of organizations, especially in the last decade and in various business areas. For example, Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a maturity model that provides this guidance for software development and purchasing. Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is not suitable for ERP because of the nature of ERP such as senior management support, very fast changing customer needs, continuous customization depending on business processes. On the other hand, existing agile maturity models are not customized according to ERP success criteria.
As a result of our literature review, the number of studies investigating the factors that cause failure rather than success criteria in ERP projects is lacking. In addition, there is no ERP maturity model based on failure factors derived from the analysis of lessons learned in order to reduce the failure rate in ERP projects.
With this thesis; A domain-specific maturity model is proposed based on failure factors for ERP projects. The proposed model is simulated with the system dynamics approach. The presented system dynamics ERP maturity model was first reviewed and verified by field experts. Afterwards, it was applied by more than one project manager and its accuracy was tested on real projects.
