ÖZDEMİR, Mevlüde, Historical and Etymological Dictionary of Dede Korkut's Dresden edition Master Thesis, Ankara, 2022.
The Dede Korkut is represents all the traditions, experiences and memories that Oguz brought from central Asia to Anatolia with this great heritage. The stories take place around the personality of Dede Korkut who is largely a historical figure. In addition to all these social and cultural aspects it also reflects the great vocabulary of the Turkish language in terms of language. It is thought that the Dede Korkut texts which have great differences between their formation and writing, were written in the 15th century.
Dede Korkut stories whose importance has increased to a great extent with this cultural heritage are also the first examples of the transition from epic to story tradition. These historical texts, contains features of the both verse and prose. In this study, we put forward our dictionary study which reveals the phonetic, semantic and etymological features of the words that make up the vocabulary of the six stories in the Dresden copy. In our study, we included not only Turkish words but also etymological explanations of foreign words.
We showed both the sound changes and the structural changes of the words that we gave the origin information. We have also indicated the semantic dimension of the words by with examples all the meanings they have gained in the text. Thus we have obtained an annotated etymological lexicon of the vocabulary of Dede Korkut texts.
