The power of illustration to narrate an information, text or event by itself has provided to be used in every era and culture. Even the surface, object or place of use has changed, it is given preference as a source, because of its functionality in information transfer. Books are one of the products that illustrations are used the most. The relationship between book and illustration, which has begun with the production of pictorial books, is always continued. Although the stabile illustration is widely used, it is tried to transfer information more effectively with the books that contains interactive illustration using dynamic parts, three dimensional pages, different folding paper methods. As for today, interactive illustration is also able to be used in electronic books through the opportunities provided by the digital media.
Contribution of interactive illustration to the books and readers is emphasized with the purpose of thesis named “Interactive Illustration Applications in Electronic Books; A Design Proposal for Turkish Myths”. This thought is tried to be supported with an example of an electronic book, and with it, creatures and characters that forms the cosmos of Turkish mythology are introduced by interactive illustration.
In this study, there are four parts. In the first part, occurence of the electronic book concept, its description, features and development process are analysed. In the second part, description of interactive illustration and the concept of interactive illustration in electronic books are focused. In the third part, design of the cosmos and earth in Turkish mythology, information about certain creatures and characters in literature are included. As for the fourth part, within the scope of the study, information about design of the electronic book prepared for the introduction of some creatures and characters included in Turkish mythology and design process are given.
