Tüzen Ş., Evaluation of Pain Characteristics in Patients with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Hacettepe University, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Master's Program, Ankara, 2021. This study was conducted to determine pain characteristics in individuals diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS). 66 patients aged 18-65 years were included in the study (Mean Age: 36.95 ± 9.73 years). Patients were evaluated only once. Pressure pain thresholds of the patients were measured. In addition, visual analog scale, Central Sensitization Scale, Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale, Toronto Alexithymia Scale, Pain Disaster Scale, International Physical Activity Scale, McGill-Melzack Pain Questionnaire, Pain Quality Assessment Scale and Childhood Trauma Scale were used. The symptom duration of the patients was 6.42±5.33 years. The pain intensity of the patients was moderate, and the pressure pain thresholds were low. A low pressure pain threshold was interpreted as hyperalgesia. Central sensitization and kinesiophobia were observed in the patients. In addition, alexithymia levels were close to the border and catastrophobia levels were moderate. The presence of alexithymia was observed in 44% of the patients. There was a significant relationship between symptom duration and central sensitization and kinesiophobia (p<0.05). 59% of the patients were physically inactive. In conclusion, chronic pain effects are seen in TOS patients and these effects are not related to peripheral pain parameters. Therefore, the effects of chronic pain should be evaluated in TOS patients. Treatment planning in patients should be made considering these effects.
