Azerbaycan Türkçesinde Kiplik
Özet
This study aims to describe modality in Azerbaijani Turkish and to examine the modal
markers together with their functions. In the thesis, modality is handled as a semantic
category that reflects the speaker's attitude, knowledge, expectation, doubt, necessity,
desire, adequacy towards the proposition. Based on modality classifications, epistemic,
deontic and dynamic modality were evaluated as basic modal fields. Also in the epistemic
modality, remote possibility – fiction, possibility, certainty, unlikely / impossible,
predictive reality; command, permission, obligation, necessity, condition in deontic
modality; in the dynamic modality, the meaning fields of wish – desire and competence
are examined.
The study consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The main subject
of the thesis is examined in three main sections. After the basic information about
Azerbaijani Turkish is given in the introduction, theoretical information about modality
concepts is described, and modality classifications are taken into account. In the following
sections, epistemic, deontic and dynamic modalities are interpreted respectively. Then,
the markers of these modal types in Azerbaijani Turkish were functionally examined.
The main purpose of this study is to create a basic modality model for Azerbaijanian
related to the modality, which has not been systematically investigated in Azerbaijani
Turkish yet.
