In this direction, data were collected from 29 single-parent individuals residing in Kırıkkale and 11 professionals working within the Kırıkkale Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services. In this study, in which the qualitative research method was applied, the data were obtained through in-depth interviews. Voice recordings of single-parent individuals were taken, and data were collected by taking notes by the researcher in the interviews of the professionals. In the in-depth interviews, semi-structured interview forms prepared based on the single-parent family literature were used. The analysis was made by the researcher without using a qualitative data analysis program. The findings obtained through categories, main themes and sub-themes were shared. While it is understood that single-parent families have more economic and psychological difficulties and needs, it has been concluded that they are disadvantaged in terms of lack of social support, loneliness, employment, working life and child care. In addition, it has been determined that children in single-parent households are exposed to these problems with their single parents, and are at risk for regression in academic achievement and parental deprivation.
Currently, there are no specific policies and practices focusing on the needs of single-parent families in Turkey. In addition, it has been determined that the potential beneficiaries of social and economic support services and free nursery and day care services from existing social work practices are single-parent families. However, it has been understood as a result of the research that these applications need improvement. In line with the results obtained from the research; the research was completed by including suggestions on preventive-preventive services, individuals in single-parent households, group, family and local society, and policy, institutional supports and practices.
