Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the formation of men's construct of their manhood around the notions of power and violence and understand the emergence of violence against women in this respect. In the light of this aim, the study includes some suggestions towards bringing various improvements in social policy and social services in order to end violence against women. The study, which had been designed according to the qualitative research model, is based on the data gathered from 18 men who committed violence against their spouses via a semi-structured interview form using life story technique. 12 male prisoners and convicts of violence against women in the Open and Closed Correctional Facilities, one man with probation penalty and five men from Alcoholics Anonymous had been interviewed. These interviews had been analysed in the light of theoretical knowledge.
