Aggun, G., Determining the Perceived Barriers and Supportive Behaviors of
Intensive Care Nurses towards End-of-Life Care, Hacettepe University Graduate
School of Health Sciences, Master Thesis in Fundamentals of Nursing
Programme, Ankara 2021. This study was carried out as a descriptive study to
determine the perceived barries and supportive behaviors of intensive care nursing
while providing end of life care. The study sample consisted of 278 nurses who have
been working for at least six months in the intesive care unit at Ankara City Hospital.
The data was collected through the Socio-demographic Charecteristichs Form of
Nurses and Providing End-of-Life Care to Patients: Critical Care Nurses Perceived
Obstacles and Supportive Behaviour Scale. Descriptive statictics, One Way Anova,
Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to analyze the data. It was found
that, the most critical barrier perceptions of nurses' for end of life care were “Families
not accepting poor patient prognosis.” The most important perceived supportive
behavior was “Physicians meet in person with the family after the patient’s death.”
Statistically significant differences have been found according to nurses' socio
demographic features in terms of perceived barriers and supportive behaviors (p<.05).
It is suggested in line with the findings of this research.
