Abstract

In this study, the problem of politicization of police is discussed over the analysis of Turkish police organization between 12 March 1971-12 September 1980 on the axis of reasons and results. Examining the Turkish police organization from the politicization perspective between the years 1971-1980, is the first comprehensive scientific studies in this area. In this study, three basic results are outstanding among the findings: (1) The partisanship in bureaucratic structure of Turkish police organization has a negative impact on the fulfilling security tasks, (2) The weakness in Turkish police organization in providing internal security has negative impact on the democratic government, and (3)The relationship between the police and the army in Turkey consists of a troubled area in Turkey. The data has been obtained by survey and semi-structured interview.
