The double bass concerto, written by Estonian composer Eduard Tubin in 1948, greatly contributed to double bass repertoire. It can be said that this work, which is in the repertoires of musicians playing double bass today and is appreciated, is worth performing in terms of technical difficulty, melodic structure, and rhythmic difficulty among other double bass works.
The purpose of this research is to identify the difficulties and reveal some solutions by solving them. In this study, a questionnaire form was created in consultation with experts in the field to determine the melodic, rhythmic, and technical difficulties that may be encountered during the performance of the concerto. The prepared questionnaire was distributed to the double bass students and lecturers at the State
Conservatories of universities in Turkey and to the double bass artists from symphony orchestras in Turkey.
The research is a qualitative research method. The data were analysed by purposive sampling method. The research includes the voluntarily participated 9 double bass academicians and musicians. The answers were obtained by e-mail. The solutions and interpretations of the data were made in accordance with qualitative research methods. In the light of the findings obtained from the survey results, it is believed that the approach and the interpretation of the work will carry the performance of the work to a different and beautiful level.
