Abstract

In this study, it has been tried to determine the place of Semih Gumus, who has produced many works such as novel, compilation, review, criticism, and essay, in Turkish criticism within the context of the tradition he is in. In the Introduction of the Study, the understanding of criticism in the Turkish tradition of criticism in the Republican period, the representatives of these understandings and the researches about these representatives have been discussed. In the first part, biographical information about the life of the critic has been given, sixteen books of Gumus’ criticism type have been introduced and information has been given about the subjects mentioned in the books. In the second part, the critic's view of literary genres, the boundaries of literary genres and what they expect from literary genres have been conveyed and information have been given about the authors and genres evaluated by Gumus. In the third part of the study, the analytical criticism approach adopted by the critic has been focused. In the context of the novels of Vus'at O. Bener and Adalet Agaoglu, the theory of Gumus and its practical equivalents have been examined. In the fourth and last part of the study, the critic's views on many issues in the world of literature, apart from the type of criticism, have been examined. In this section, which shows the versatility of critic and that the world of thought about literature is not limited to criticism, have been seen thoughts about literature with a wide scope such as critical reading and reception, the act of writing and creative writing, information about other critics of the tradition in which he belongs, literature magazine publishing, literature education, the future of literature, the effects of popular culture on literature, literature publishing
