Abstract
The aim of study was to investigate the effect of submaximal aerobic exercise performed in different days on substrate oxidation in fasting and postprandial conditions.13 male football players, aged between 18-25, included in this study. The study was carried out in three stages with a one-week intervals. In the first stage, urine analysis, anthropometric measurements, resting metabolic rate, body composition measurements were made and the thesis questionnaire was applied by a dietitian. After that, standard breakfast was given and maximum oxygen consumption capacities were measured. In the second stage, athletes were performed 60 minutes of submaximal aerobic exercise in 12 hours of fasting condition. In the third stage, athletes were performed 60 minutes of submaximal aerobic exercise in postprandial 2nd hour condition.Aerobic capacity was evaluated with a gas analyzer in all three stages. Before the second and third stages, food consumption records were taken and analyzed with the BeBIS program. Pre-exercise and exercise day; energy, carbohydrate, protein and fat intakes fasting and postprandial condition were similar(p>0.05). While fasting and postprandial condition urine densities, pre and post exercise body weight and body weight change percentages were similar(p>0.05); urine pH was higher at pre-exercise fasting condition(p<0.05). The carbohydrate oxidation values were higher when performing exercise in postprandial condition than in fasting condition(p<0.05). It was determined that the higher carbohydrate oxidation when performing exercise in postprandial condition was due to the 15-45-minute period of the exercise(p<0.05).The fat oxidation values were higher when performing exercise in fasting condition than the postprandial condition (p<0.05). It was determined that the higher fat oxidation when performing exercise in postprandial condition was due to the 15-60-minute period of the exercise(p<0.05). As a result of our study, it was determined that fat oxidation was higher when performing submaximal aerobic exercises in fasting condition than performing exercises in postprandial condition.
