Words known as final inflectional prepositions in Turkish sources fulfill different grammatical functions. While suffixing prepositions perform different functions in syntax, they also contribute to the emergence of new lexical meanings. One of the prepositions, which has a very common usage, gibi, which is the subject of this thesis. The subject of this thesis is to determine the functions of the preposition, gibi from the corpus, and compare them with their Kazakh equivalents. For this purpose, on the one hand, how the form like is translated into Kazakh, and on the other hand, how the similarity structures in Kazakh are met in Turkish. Thus, like and equivalents that express similarities between two sister languages will be examined comparatively. Orhan Pamuk's novel Beyaz Kale and its Kazakh translation will be used to see how the preposition like Turkish is received in Kazakh, and Muhtar Awezov's novel Abay Yolu I and its Turkish translation will be used to determine which of the similar forms in Kazakh are met with as. The preposition like Kazakh is not used. In the texts we have analyzed functionally, gibi in Turkish corresponds to prepositions such as siyaḳtı, tärizdi, uḳsas and the added preposition -dAy and the suffix -şA in Kazakh.
