The concept of belonging can be defined as the individual's bonding with his immediate environment, society, place and object. The bond of belonging differs for every person and appears as one of the most basic needs. For this reason, in this thesis, the need for belonging considered as a basic need and the issues of individual, society, object and space, which completes the need for belonging, are examined. Psychological and sociological approaches were used while creating the conceptual framework of the thesis. Art historical studies within the scope of site-specific art, especially the works produced in an integrated structure with the space or works in contact with the place where they are placed have prioritize the issue of object and space. First of all, the scope and historical references of site-specific art were examined. Afterwards, it is discussed how the problems of belonging and not belonging are reflected in the works. The works of the artists, who mostly refer to spatial problems, which contain the state of belonging in their essence, are included. The interventions of the artists towards the space are examined in the context of personal space, public space and gallery space. Finally, within the scope of the concepts of belonging and non-belonging, space-related studies have been carried out that reflect the space experiences. In the research, it has been observed that the issue of object and space is related to the concept of belonging both in the daily life of the individual and in the field of art.
