Turkey's energy consumption from residential and services sector in 2015 has been passed the industrial sector, with a share of 33% of final consumption. Parallel to the increase in population, the number of dwellings in our country is increasing rapidly. About quarter of the dwellings built in our country in the last decade are single family homes that have considerably higher energy utilization per unit area than apartments. In this study, an hourly energy demand model for space heating of a single detached family housing with a heating area of 500 m(2) in Ankara was established by using ESP-r building energy simulation program. Then, the structural materials and renewable energy resources that reduce the energy utilization for space heating based on climate conditions of Ankara were determined by the application of different scenarios to the developed hourly model. The hourly heating estimate model was developed by using hourly climatic data, properties of building envelope and heat gain data. Then the model was calibrated with natural gas consumption data for heating which was monitored daily for one year. After the model was calibrated, various scenarios that suggest the changes in the physical structure of the housing and to use energy demand from different renewable sources were applied to the model. Finally, energy savings obtained by the scenarios and the pay back periods of each scenario are estimated and economically applicable external structure and renewable energy sources are.
