Cerrahi Kliniklerde Çalışan Hemşirelerin Hasta Güvenliği Kültürü İle Tükenmişlikleri Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences, Surgical Nursing Programme, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2021. Qualified and qualitative patient care is closely related to patient safety. In order to ensure patient safety, patient safety culture should be established. The patient safety culture of nurses forms the basis of the patient safety culture of the institution. However, patient safety culture is affected by many factors. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between patient safety culture and burnout levels of nurses working in surgical clinics. This descriptive study has been conducted with 60 nurses working in the surgical clinics of Hacettepe University Adult Hospital between 3 July and 14 December 2020. In the study, “Introductory Information Form”, “Patient Safety Culture Scale” and “Burnout Scale” were used. The data in the study were obtained through face to face interviews. All of the nurses participating in the study have bachelor degrees and %80 are women. The average age of the nurses is 30.97 ± 4.80 years and their average professional experience is 7.26±4.85 years. 91.7% of the nurses work as clinician. Average weekly working hours of nurses are 48.05 ± 4.52 hours. 80% of the nurses have previously received training on patient safety. The total score of the nurses on the Patient Safety Culture Scale is 2.76 ± 0.37; the total score of the Burnout Scale is 4.52 ± 0.81 points. According to the total scores of the Burnout Scale, 73.4% of the nurses are considered to be exhausted and 6.7% of them should get help immediately. While the Patient Safety Culture Scale score of the nurses decreases, the Burnout Scale score increases. The lower the Burnout Scale score, the higher the Patient Safety Culture Scale score (p <0.05). Nurses' weekly working hours, the number of weekly night shifts and the situation of encountering a problem regarding patient safety in the clinic they have been in the last year affect the Patient Safety Culture Scale score. The nurses' age, weekly working hours, and the level of satisfaction with the profession affect the Burnout Scale score. According to the results of the study; reviewing the training given to nurses on patient safety in terms of content and delivery method, organizing activities to increase the satisfaction of nurses from the profession and providing the necessary nurse employment in the institution is recommended.
