Chiari Malformasyonu Tip 1'li Hastalarda Farklı Egzersiz Programlarının Etkilerinin İncelenmesi
Özet
This study was planned to examine the effects of Symptom-Oriented Exercise (SOE) and Cervical Spinal Stabilization Exercise (CSSE) programs on pain, proprioception, balance, coordination, swallowing functions, activities of daily living and quality of life in patients with Chiari Malformation Type 1 (CM Type 1). Sixteen patients with CM Type 1 diagnosis and no surgical indication were included in this study. The patients were divided into two different exercise groups as "SOE Group" (n=8) and "CSSE Group" (n=8) based on the "small posterior fossa" and "atlantoaxial instability" theories in CM Type 1. SOE or CSSE programs were applied to the patients in both exercise groups 3 days a week for a total of 6 weeks. According to the results of the study, it was determined that while the pain of CM Type 1 patients in both exercise groups decreased, their proprioception senses, balance and quality of life increased. (p<0.05). While the coordination of CM Type 1 patients improved only in the SOE group (p<0.05), there was no change in the CSSE group (p> 0.05). On the other hand, the postures of CM Type 1 patients improved only in the CSSE group (p<0.05). There was no change in swallowing functions and daily living activities of CM Type 1 patients with either exercise program (p>0.05). These findings showed that exercise programs specific to CM Type 1 patients without surgical indications can be used as an auxiliary treatment method for their routine controls and medical treatments. As a result; In our study, it was thought that CM Type 1 patients, who were followed up with routine controls without surgical indication, benefited from both exercise programs that we applied in addition to their medical treatments, which were created on the basis of different theories, and that it might be useful to add the exercise program according to the patients' findings. However, it was concluded that follow-up studies after the exercise program are needed to determine the long-term effects of these benefits.
