Renewable energy sources are accepted as sustainable energy sources because they are obtained from the natural energy flow, but considering an energy source as sustainable, it needs to be unlimited and harmless to the environment. When questioned in detail, it is seen that the current cycle does not occur in this way.
In order to manage future energy investments effectively, problems arising from environmental footprints of energy sector growth scenarios, need to be solved by focusing on sustainable energy generation practices. Key indicators should be identified to quantify impacts.
Within the scope of this study, which is designed for evaluating the sustainability of five selected renewable energy sources, models based on Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) analysis, integrating sustainability components, and also technical indicators are evaluated and tested with sensitivity analyzes.
While creating models based on the methods applied within the scope of MCDM, the opinions of experts who have worked on renewable energy projects and have sustainability perspective were utilized. In the stage of data collection, to achieve the most realistic results, data from renewable energy power plants projected and / producing energy in Turkey and the country-specific data was used. The models created within the scope of the study were tested by sensitivity analysis and the results were compared.in addition this, the compatibility of the results was tested with a different decision-making method. Resulsts showed that, solar energy can be considered as the most sustainable option, among the evaluated renewable energy systems in terms of selected sustainability indicators.
