It is includes the society, culture, ideology and political movements of the period through the works and thoughts of the writer Nikolai Leskov who lived in the 19th century. In this study, the views of Nikolai Leskov about the tsars on the throne, political thoughts, philosophies and movements are examined and his position against the ideas of Westernizers and Slavophiles and nihilism movement that appearing in 19th century Russia are discussed.
Leskov, who entered literature with his journalism career, depicts the society of the period in his works. With these characters reflected in his works, we can learn about Russian human typology of the 19th century. In the first part, the era of the author, in the second part, the life of the author and in the last part, his two classical works are examined. With the work of Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk District, Leskov describes the women issue that emerged in the 19th century, and with the work The Sealed Angel, the author describes the Old Believers community living in miniature states. Both works are important in terms of allowing us to understand the period.
