Özet
Adventure games, which we met in the last quarter of 1970’s, have gone through
various evolutions due to the impact of technological advances up until today.
Having been accepted as a type of interactive stories, adventure games has
become one of the most preferred types by the independent game developers in
today’s world. Thanks to the possibilities of the ever-fast-changing technologies to
the game developers, it is now more possible to develop games for individual and
small teams and market a game without the need of involvement of a distributor.
Recent acceptance of games’ success by the independent game developers has
encouraged many people as well. This caused derivation and creation of many
game characters. In the creation of these game characters, mythology has been
resorted most of the time.
In the first part of the study, providing general information regarding the adventure
games which aims at making Basilisk-a Turkish myth and its story more visible in a
new media namely video games compared to the other media. Types of adventure
games, definition, history, models and two independent adventure game reviews
are cited as well. In the second part, elements of video game design are addressed.
In the third part, visual design within the game design elements are stated in a more
detailed manner.
Third and the last part of the study provides information for Basilisk game which is
a holist video game application. Structural elements forming the game have been
taken into account and review of Basilisk-a Turkish Folk Myth which is a main
characters of video game application along with video engine selection have been
conducted. Following that, coding experience as a designer in the video game
creation has been provided.
