From the beginning of history, human beings have interacted with the space they use. But
especially with the industrial revolution; they had to get away from the residence which is
the most used place and spent most of his time in working places. Although the time
spent and functions in the house depend on the person himself, the time and behaviors in
the working places; limited to the conditions of the study, regulations and rules. In
today's world, where the time allocated to the work is increasing and personal life is
getting stuck in shorter time periods, office buildings have a very important place in
human life where at least eight hours of the day are spent. In terms of human-space
relation, office buildings are an issue that needs to be examined through common social
spaces as well as working environments. It is observed that especially the office buildings
constructed in recent years are designed to create more common spaces and thus social
places. The importance of these common areas as the places where employees come
together, are part of the workplace and accepted, can only be understood in detail when
the human space relationship is examined. In this context, the aim of the study is to
measure the relationship between the common spaces in the office buildings and the
user and whether this relationship has an effect on the motivation of the work.Therefore;
from the Behavioral Psychology, Organizational Psychology and Environmental
Psychology disciplines; effects of spatial factors on human behavior were investigated. In
order to understand how these approaches are found response in practice; with a
qualitative based situation determination approach, a survey was conducted. The survey
findings, applied to companies determined by purposive sampling method, were analyzed
with SPSS program and the opinions and requests of the employees about these common
spaces were determined.
